Speech-Language Therapist

Natalie Sceales is a registered Speech-Language Therapist with the HPCSA. She has had further training in DIR/Floortime (Certificate Level 1, Certificate Level 2 in progress), Reflex Integration, and Talk Tools Oral Placement Therapy. Natalie offers Speech-Language Assessments and Therapy for children across a range of ages and presentations. Therapy focuses on the following areas:

  • Receptive and expressive language, including children who are late talkers, have difficulties with vocabulary, sentence construction, or communicating effectively across contexts.
  • Pre-linguistic and foundational communication skills for children who are non-speaking or who are in the early stages of developing intentional communication.
  • Speech sound disorders, including difficulties pronouncing individual sounds and patterns of sounds.
  • Childhood Apraxia of Speech/Dyspraxia and motor speech difficulties.
  • Autism and social communication differences, with a focus on relationship-based, play-centred approaches to intervention.
  • Auditory processing difficulties, including children who struggle to make sense of spoken language, frequently ask for repetition, or take longer to process what they hear.
  • Pre-literacy skills and phonological awareness, including sound awareness, rhyming, and letter-sound knowledge.
  • Reading, spelling, and written language, including dyslexia, phonics, reading comprehension, and the ability to process and respond to written information.
  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) for children who benefit from additional tools to support or replace verbal communication.

Occupational Therapist

Our group of OT’s have the expertise to intervene if you or your child has been described or diagnosed with any of the following conditions: Sensory Processing Dysfunction, Attention Deficits, Learning Disabilities, Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Developmental Delay, Preterm Births, Neurological Conditions, Cerebral Palsy and Syndromes.

At therapy connect, we work to enhance participation and independence. We do this through building skills, analysing and adapting the environment and supporting and educating parents.

We work with differences in the following areas of function:

  • Sensory Processing - responses to sensory input that influence behaviour, development and social interactions.
  • Gross Motor Skills - balance, bilateral co-ordination, motor planning.
  • Fine Motor Co-ordination - pencil control, cutting with scissors, colouring, copying writing.
  • Self-Care Skills - dressing, grooming, feeding, bathing, toileting.
  • Play Skills - playing developmentally, independently and socially.
  • Visual Spatial Perception - spatial planning, letter formation, writing.
  • Task Focus and Concentration - paying attention, flexible thinking, working memory, problem solving, organising tasks

Educational Psychologist

Helga Uys is a registered Educational Psychologist offering psycho-educational assessments, counselling, and psychological support to children, adolescents, parents, and families. Through comprehensive assessments, she assists in identifying factors that may influence a learner’s academic, emotional, behavioural, and developmental functioning, thereby informing appropriate recommendations and support. She conducts assessments for educational accommodations and concessions, school readiness, and learning difficulties. Her work includes supporting learners who experience challenges with reading, writing, attention, and other aspects of learning. Helga has also completed additional training in areas relating to Dyslexia and related learning difficulties. In addition to assessment services, Helga provides counselling and therapeutic support to children and adolescents experiencing emotional, behavioural, social, or adjustment difficulties.

She also works collaboratively with parents, offering guidance and practical strategies to support their children’s development and well-being. A particular area of interest is helping learners develop effective study skills, memory strategies, and learning approaches that suit their individual learning needs. She also supports learners in managing the demands and stress often associated with school and examinations.

Helga further offers Neethling Brain Instruments (NBI®) assessments, which provide insight into individual thinking preferences and can contribute to greater self-awareness, communication, and understanding of learning styles.

Dietitian and Lactation Consultant

Lize is a Dietitian and Lactation Consultant with a passion for women’s health, pregnancy, breastfeeding & lactation, introduction of solids and paediatric nutrition, which includes growth monitoring, picky eating and the first 1000 days of life (day of conception to the second birthday) as it influences the long-term health of an individual. She has also completed a sports nutrition course through the Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) and focuses on sports nutrition for tweens, teens, recreational athletes, and elite athletes. She believes in individual treatment plans as behaviour change can be influenced by numerous factors. She also has experience with managing various other diseases through medical nutrition therapy. She also runs a breast pump demo center. Different breast pumps can be tested, measurements taken to ensure proper flange sizes and offers pumping support.

Outside of her professional life, Lize is a proud wife and a mother to a 5-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter.
